My Life As A Fangirl

Picture
Hi, my name is Lora Leibrandt - welcome to my webpage! First a little bit about me...I'm the librarian at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Omaha, Nebraska. We aren't one of those middle schools with 5th and 6th graders - we're what they used to call a "junior high" back in the day.

Lewis and Clark Middle School is a diverse urban school with our share of reluctant readers. So one of the challenges of librarian-ing here is how to get those reluctant readers reading??? So began my journey into graphic novels and manga - yup, this is the story of how I became a Comic Book Geek.

On this page you will find bibliographies, lesson plans, reviews, links, photographs, weird stuff of all kinds related to graphic novels. Just click and read, click and read...and maybe you too will find yourself talking like a Fangirl (or boy). And maybe, just maybe, you will also find yourself becoming a better and braver librarian with lots and lots of students who READ!!!

Comic Con NYC 2009

My friend and fellow librarian Jo O'Garro and I had the opportunity to attend Comic Con in New York City last February. It was a blast! Not only did we get to mingle with the Fanboys and costumed creatures, but we learned a ton at sessions aimed at educators and librarians. I came back so geek-y that I even created this Animoto video to commemorate our trip. Take a look!
